“Sustainability is now a major disruption. Business as usual is no longer an option.”
Ioannis Ioannou, Associate Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at London Business School
Sustainability in Action
When it comes to corporate sustainability, incremental change is no longer enough. More and more leaders are realising that future-proofing their business requires a full transformation, taking a strategic and holistic approach to sustainability throughout their operations.
Welcome to Sustainability in Action, a series where we ask leading sustainability experts exactly what it takes to drive Sustainability Transformation that goes beyond greenwashing to deliver meaningful change.
Organizations agree with Ioannou. Sustainability is now top of the boardroom agenda, and businesses are trying to improve their impact on the world: 77% say they think being sustainable is the right thing to do and is ultimately good for business.
But our new research has also uncovered a problem: organizations’ enthusiasm for sustainability is not being matched by real progress. This is the sustainability gap.
61% of organizations say they’re advanced on their sustainability journeys
However, just:
9% have developed sustainable supply chains
7% are prepared for environmental emergencies
2% have achieved net zero status
